Santa Rosa, California (January 28, 2010) -- Registration for two Northern California wine business events, the 28th West Coast Wine Competition (WCWC) and the Tasting Room Profitability Conference & Trade Show (TRP), was announced today by their producer, Vineyard & Winery Management magazine. The WCWC will be judged April 28-30, 2010 at Sonoma Mountain Village, Rohnert Park while TRP takes place April 7-8, 2010 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, Santa Rosa. The Wine Club Summit, TRP's sister event, is scheduled for April 6 at the same venue as TRP.
Online registration, details and instructions for the three events are available via www.vwm-online.com or 800.535.5670. The entry deadline for WCWC is March 19.
"Staff training and up-to-date competition awards continue to be cost-effective winery investments as we enter a new decade," said Robert Merletti, publisher of Vineyard & Winery Management.
West Coast Wine Competition
Established in 1982, the WCWC recognizes outstanding wines produced in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Australia, Baja California (Mexico), British Columbia (Canada) and New Zealand. This year, the competition has added entries from Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and the wine regions of South America.
Comprehensive lists of category winners, with links to many winery web sites, will be posted at www.vwm-online.com while medal winners will be posted on Food & Wine magazine's website (www.foodandwine.com) during the month of May 2010.
In 2009, judges awarded a total of 46 Double Gold, 60 Gold, 390 Silver, and 539 Bronze medals from a field of over 1,500 entries.
With 35-plus years in the wine industry, Chairman Bill Traverso selects judges with full-time careers as food and beverage media, winemakers, wine marketers, enology and viticulture professors and researchers, restaurateurs and sommeliers, hospitality and tourism consultants, and fine wine retailers.
Traverso chaired the Sonoma County Harvest Fair Wine Competition for 10 years and currently sits on the Board of Visitors and Fellows at the Viticulture and Enology Department, University of California Davis. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Santa Rosa Junior College wine studies program.
Tasting Room Profitability Conference & Trade Show
"Connection" will be the theme of TRP and the Wine Club Summit. Through technologies and more traditional methods, making the sale is all about how wineries connect in today's marketplace. Attendees will learn innovative ideas and rediscover tried-and-true techniques to increase traffic and drive sales.
TRP provides tasting room staff with the skills needed to operate successful and profitable tasting rooms: two full days of compelling sessions by experts in and out of the wine industry present provocative, practical and instructive information. Topics include blogging, social networking, new technologies, the latest in shipping compliance, and more. Sixty-plus vendors specializing in tasting room products and services will exhibit at the trade show: April 7 (12:30-5:30p) and April 8 (10a-3p).
Wine Club Summit
The Wine Club Summit presents a full day of intensive study encompassing the necessary elements of maintaining a profitable wine club. Topics include leveraging rewards programs, the latest in wine club technology, social networking guidelines and concepts, and more.
